In 2002, the markets changed from having to use BT to get a number by calling the old 192, to the opening up of the directory enquires market to any business that wanted a go of it.
Now there are hundreds of directory enquires providers out there, all offering different service levels and different pricing, from national UK numbers to international and specialist services, each have a unique offering.

Crosby offers two routes for customers wanting to setup their own Directory Enquires Number:
Low Cost – Minimal Investment Route
We offer an express route which includes:
- You own 118 number (you can choose)
- We answer your calls in your company name and handle each call
- We will give you real-time on-line statistics so you can see breakdown of each call, duration and number called from
- We record each phone call, so you can download them if you wish from our website (for quality control purposes)
- You will receive an out payment from each call, anything from 25p to £1.50 per minute, per call or both depending on the price you set for callers
- Advise on regulatory issues, marketing and consumer price
With this option, you don’t have to do anything other than market the service. Crosby will setup everything for you and ‘handhold’ you through the process, from application to having the service running and taking calls.
Full Service – Own Call Centre Route
Our full service route is designed for you to take each call and handled it within your own premises, using your own staff. You will be responsible for the running of the service, and need to have staff on hand when each call comes through.
Of course, you will need a volume of phone lines, computers, and telephones and have staff trained in dealing with each call.
With this option, Crosby can:
- Supply you with one or as many 118 numbers as you need
- Supply you with our software that allows you to lookup phone numbers, names, addresses, and send out text messages in 22 countries
- Record your calls for later download if you need them (from our website)
- Provide regulatory advice, sample marketing and general know how
- Provide on-site training to staff (if required)
- Provide a basic website so you’re ready to go live
